Advertising – This is a technique whereby players will expose their cards or try to convince other players at the table that they have a certain style of play. This is like making a foolish play or trying to give the impression that one bluffs a great deal. The point is to try and get psychological control over the other players at the table via deceptive techniques.

Back In – This means entering a pot by checking, followed by checking another player’s open during the first round of betting.

Bleed – This is losing chips through bad plays over a period of time and sometimes happens due to tilt. When this happens, the player is said to be ‘bleeding chips’.

Case Card – This is the final card of a certain description, like the card’s rank such as queen or 10. When the player is trying to find the ‘case queen’, it means they are trying to get the last queen in the deck being played.

Dirty Stack – This is a stack of chips that are supposed to be only of one denomination, but there are other denominations mixed in. While this can happen as a pure accident, it’s also a sneaky trick to fool other players.

Fourth Street – This is the 4th card dealt onto the board in a game like Texas Hold ‘em or other community card games and is sometimes called a turn. Can also refer to the 4th card dealt to players in a stud game.

Going South – Also known as ratholing, this is sneaking chips off of the table to try and lower a player’s stakes in the game and is considered cheating.

Live Bet – This is when a player posts a bet under circumstances that allow them to have the option to raise even if other players are not raising first. This is usually done as a blind or straddle to get into a different game.

Muck - This has several different possible meanings such as to fold. It can also mean discarding a hand without showing which cards one held and in that case it is usually done after winning without a showdown. Can even refer to the discard pile itself such as the cards being put ‘in the muck’.

One Chip Rule – This means calling a previous bet using a chip that is higher in value than required. Usually a call unless the player makes sure to state that it’s a raise.

Pot-Committed – This generally is used when talking about a no limit game and is the situation where one is unable to fold because the size of the pot is so large it dwarfs your stack of chips.

Rack – This is a collection of 100 chips that are all in the same denomination and is arranged in 5 stacks. Can also mean the actual tray holding the 5 denominations of chips, as well.

Short Stack – This is when the chips stacked are small in comparison to the game’s stakes.

Soft Play – This is intentionally going easy on another player at the table by not performing the normal actions such as raising or betting against them. This is not allowed in card rooms and usually means that the player doing so will forfeit any wins.
